Facebook Is Removing Likes Counter Feature
In an attempt to stem the never-ending race at Like, which we find endlessly behind every publication, Facebook has decided to take an example on Instagram by considering, too, to remove its counter from posts.
This is information that we owe to the engineer Jane Manchun Wong, and that could mark the end of the race to Like on Facebook. Note that just like on Instagram, which already tests the tool successfully in several countries including Canada and Brazil, the number of Like would still be accessible to the author of the post, even in case of general deployment of the functionality.
Asked by the site TechCrunch, Facebook has confirmed his desire to test sustainably the removal of the counter of Like, but without giving further details on the subject. While the likes have long been the main engine of interactions on Mark Zuckerberg’s social network, the platform seems to have been detaching itself for some months – at least in part from its historical system, by curbing the pressure of counting Like and the ill-being that the latter can sometimes generate in the user.
For Instagram, the company had justified its choice by explaining the goal “that your friends focus on the photos and videos you share, not the number of likes they get.”
