Netflix Dropped Apple AirPlay Support After Apple TV Launch

Netflix’s new iOS app deleted AirPlay support. Netflix has done this after Apple launches it’s own Netflix like service, Apple TV+. Although Netflix is saying that the update doesn’t have to do with the launch of Apple TV.

Airplay was the service where people can cast their mobile screens to their smart TVs and their iOS devices such as iPads and Macs.

We want to make sure our members have a great Netflix experience on any device they use. With AirPlay support rolling out to third-party devices, there isn’t a way for us to distinguish between devices (what is an Apple TV vs. what isn’t) or certify these experiences. Therefore, we have decided to discontinue Netflix AirPlay support to ensure our standard of quality for viewing is being met. Members can continue to access Netflix on the built-in app across Apple TV and other devices.

The official statement

It certainly looks as though the streaming service is taking steps to pull itself out of the Apple ecosystem, regardless of the discussion around ‘technical limitations.’
